Paros to Mykonos and meeting up with our friends

May the 4th be with you! it's May 4th, also Greek orthodox Easter so lots of things are closed here. We said farewell to Paros today and caught the 11am ferry after packing our bags again. This time we caught a SeaJet fast ferry which only took 45 minutes to get us to Mykonos. Paul and Karen's ferry was meant to arrive from Athens about the same time but it seemed to struggle with the approach into the port so they were about 30 minutes later meeting us for the water taxi from the new modern port over to the old port town where we are staying. Above - Farewell Paros from the Ferry and Hello Mykonos.

After that slightly bumpy 10 minute ride watching cruise ship tenders going in and out as well, we spent a wee while finding our accommodation - which is upstairs, pretty small but perfectly functional for the 5 of us for the next couple of days. Bags dropped we headed out for lunch and an explore.

Photos right. Paul and Karen up top on the water taxi. Old Port in Mykonos town. The small boat bottom right is the water taxi we caught, bottom left is the giant cruise ship docked - vs the ones moored out in the bay.

Mykonos is very picturesque, very up market compared with Naxos or Paros - back to Santorini kind of standard and has hundreds of tiny streets filled with shops, bars, restaurants, bakeries, mini-marts and other food shops even Louis Vuitton kind of shops.  Our lunch was really nearby in a locally owned taverna where Steve and I shared a salad and calamari and we all shared tzatziki and pita. Everything is more expensive here, back to Santorini prices. It is so picturesque I kept stopping and taking photos as we walked losing my posse.

Next we walked up to the windmills Mykonos is famous for. The view is impressive and it wasn't as crowded as the waterfront. We enjoyed a wander through less busy streets and watched the weather coming in - dark clouds which were completely unexpected and later brought rain - eek!

Left - Windmills in the distance and up close. Looking back down to the buildings along the waterfront, and on our way there we navigated a sea wall where the waves crashed and we had to avoid getting wet!

Walking the streets - top left and bottom right, bottom left is the first public toilets we saw down at the waterfront, very fancy. Top right is an old ruin site on our way to the windmills.

It was late afternoon and everyone was tired from our day of travel and walking in the sunshine so we went to one of the small supermarkets and picked up some wine, muesli and yoghurt and walked back to our accommodation with everyone fighting off / succumbing to sleep. As it started to rain we stayed put for a few drinks and didn't head out until 8pm for Gyro's - a cheap dinner after an otherwise expensive day.

Gyro here are $14 which is what we paid in Santorini, excellent however and with a beer was a good dinner for everyone.

Left - the view from our accomodation, another fabulous bathroom, trying to follow the others looking for the place, Libby's bed on the sofa.

After dinner we decided a wee walk was in order so first went to a mini-mart only to find booze was twice the price, so we ventured back to the supermarket. Some bars were booming music now and even though the ground was slippery and wet there were people everywhere.

Below - top left our first Ouzo, top right Karen took this great shot of me getting soaked. The two photos on the bottom were the boys copying what they saw influencers doing in these photo spots.
