London Day 14 - time to go home

This two weeks has flown by yet we are happy to have seen so many people and Steve enjoyed a great first visit to my former home town. 
Our last morning was pissing down. We packed, chatted with Paul who kindly worked from home so we could spend some time with him and headed into town to meet Karen for lunch 
Our last selfie at stop P Isle of Dogs and one last photo at Canary Wharf DLR station. 
Our big plan for the last day was going up the Walkie-Talkie building to the SkyGarden. As you can see from this before and after pic series when we headed to our long awaited booking time we couldn't even see the building for the cloud. 
So sadly we cancelled our booking. Impossible to get another the same day that has gone into the list for next time. 
Another of the things on the list was lunch at Caravan which we did achieve. Great coffee as promised Sophie. 
We escorted Karen back to work so we could delay the goodbye. So last photo on the tube. 
She works in such a fantastic part of London. Final selfies with Karen at work then with Paul at home before we departed. They have been so great letting us stay so long and entertaining us! Will miss them. 
The day had cleared up so our formerly dreaded commute to Heathrow was ok. We left the apartment at 6:30 and had an OK run on the tubes. 
Post checkin we ate in an Italian airport bar. Must say Heathrow terminal 3 is the most affordable airport we have seen this trip. 
The football was on so all bars were packed where tvs are present. 
Bye London it's been a blast.

And we’re off. 19th of April 2024.  Koru lounge for a wine before our first of 3 flights today Wellington Auckland. First confession, we checked in our carry on bags. Second confession, mine weighed 10kg’s and Steve’s weighed 8kg’s - hopefully those extra kg’s are taken up with gifts to lavish on Karen and Paul so we’ll be under before we head back - we think AirNZ is the only airline we’re travelling who limits you to 7kg carry on.   Anyway. Welcome to our blog. Who knew we used to blog, at some stage we moved away from this and started sending emails but with so many of you asking for photos I decided to blog this trip. Also gives me something to do on travel days, which there are many of - trains, planes and ferries.  It’s been fun reading our UK 2016 travels. Sadly that was the last time we saw Mary who lost her battle with brain cancer earlier this year. London - Tuesday Netball, dinosaurs and thunderstorms

I plan to write a while blog on dinosaurs so this one will just contain a few pics of those. Late start again followed by lunch with Don in our now regular Wimbledon haunt The Loft - loving this roof bar although we sat inside due to rain.  Post lunch Don returned to work full of yummy food and we hopped on a bus heading to Harrods. Fortuitous timing as a massive thunderstorm unleashed for our journey, wicked rain we were very lucky to be sheltered from. Our plan had been to hop off and walk over Putney Bridge, instead we hopped off, took pics and hopped on our next bus immediately.  Our next plan had been to go to Harrods but when the bus was crawling along making little progress we hopped off at the V&A, popped into the loos there then decided to go see dinosaurs. That thought was short lived when we saw the queue - wowsa- so next plan was walk up to see the Royal Albert Hall then walk to Harrods. Spectacular Tutukaka coastal walking

Photos on my iPhone just can't do this beautiful coastline justice. Only 3 hours drive north of Auckland and 30 minutes beyond Whangarei the Tutukaka Coast is warm, accessible and spectacular.  We have rented a gorgeous beachfront Bach which overlooks a sheltered wee bay used by moored yachts and weekend kayakers. The Tutukaka Coast is a mixture of stone and sand beaches, this one is stone with clear water. Imogen and I enjoyed a fab swim yesterday, was warm and remained shallow for about 50 metres or so.  It is just so much warmer and humid than home, loving it. Our vegan gluten free bbq's are awesome too although Steve did sneaks some chops into the mix.  Today we walked the Whananaki Coastal Walkway. A fascinatingly diverse track with spectacular vistas along the way.  The track itself crosses private farm lands, through forests and follows coastline both on rocks and beaches.  The track quality is excellent.
